Another wedding that’s very close to my heart 🥹

I’ve known Debbie for 27 years, since I was a wee girl, about 6 or 7 we think. When my parents took on the local village shop, Debbie was already working there and continued to do so for many years. I remember the first time my parents took my sisters and me into the shop to choose some 10p sweets, Debbie was there, and she remained a constant in our lives from that moment on. She has been a trusted friend and colleague to my parents, and later became the same for me.

Watching Debbie and Chris celebrate this special chapter was incredibly meaningful, and I feel so lucky to have been part of their day alongside their family and friends 🌸

Their day was vibrant, warm, and full of howling laughter. They truly couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day. This is what weddings are all about, the connection, the people, the energy. ✨💛

Clementine and Alex are two of the kindest people I know. Over the past few years, life hasn’t made things easy for them, but they’ve faced it all together and come out even closer. There’s something really special about the way they hold onto each other through everything 🥹

Kings Wood means a lot to them, in more ways than one. On Saturday, the sun lit up Faversham, and the bluebells were in full bloom! The sun was glowing through the woodland where they got engaged and it felt like everything came together just for them.

I’ve known Clementine since we were at school, and I’ve always loved her wonderfully unique nature, always living life outside the box (our music tastes are twin flames! I bumped into Clem and her son at an @auroramusic gig recently and BAM! Instant bond with her little one! ) Also, knowing what Alex and their family have been through recently, it truly meant even more to me to be there to capture not just the big moments, but all the emotions too (yes, I had a little sob behind my camera during their family dance 🥹) ✨ so much love to you both 💚

I AM SO LUCKY! When I saw Jack and Jana’s names pop up on my enquiry form, I had everything crossed that I’d be free, and somehow, I was!

I’ve known Jack for over 20 years now (how did that happen?!), and even though life’s taken us in slightly different directions, reading his and Jana’s story filled me with joy. I knew straight away I wanted to capture their intimate wedding.

They met while Jana was over from Germany studying in the UK, at their university archery society (very cool, very niche). Their love of all things ‘nerdy’ (self proclaimed!) from D&D and all things whimsy. Jana is Jack’s person.

Their city wedding was a gloriously sunny Friday in April, right here Canterbury, in the city we grew up in. These two made everything feel ridiculously easy. Just happy, relaxed, and completely themselves… basically a photographer’s dream. Congratulations to one of my oldest pals and his perfect match 💌

Magic moments in magic spots 🌳✨
When B+P wanted to do their portraits on their farm, under one of their favourite trees, it was a no-brainer to make it part of their day. Something I really hold close is that your wedding is your wedding. It’s not a photoshoot. It’s not a performance. It’s not about getting everything “perfect.” You’re allowed, encouraged even, to bring your personality into your plans and create a day you can truly be in, not just watch from the outside.

You know when you meet some people and everything just clicks straight away? Where you can skip the small talk, because it already feels easy. That was how it was meeting Brad + Harriet ✨

Both creative to their core, when I mentioned the idea of a darkroom focused couples shoot, they didn’t even hesitate, they just trusted the process. That honestly means everything. 🥹

On a suppppper drizzly, low contrast and grey day in February (honestly did it ever stop raining?!), we ended up drenched with zero time to review the images … yet the shoot was soft, quiet and kind of perfect for what we were creating.

We kept things really simple and intentional, then took it into the darkroom and hand printed some of their 35mm photos. Watching an image you’ve printed slowly appear in the tray never gets old, and seeing them both experience that for the first time, watching their memories come to life like that, felt really special.

SO excited for their wedding this Autumn… I’ve already booked my Airbnb 🤘🏻

There’s something about black and white film that just feels honest. The grain, the limitations, the way records and holds light. Analogue photography doesn’t chase perfection, it holds onto feeling. I’ve been shooting film personally and professionally for over 18 years (yikes!)

120 film with my Yashica Mat 124G, a beautiful 1970s camera that slows me down in the best way (scroll for a video of the camera in all its slowness). I realised the other day that I’ve owned this camera for ten years now. For a while I thought the nature of the manual focus, the mirrored viewfinder and waist-level positioning wouldn’t be suited to weddings. How wrong I was! I’m so glad I dusted her off and realised how perfect it actually is, the perfect format for me. I love slowness. I love to anticipate moments. I love to shoot with intention. Loaded with Kodak Portra 400 at the Turner Contemporary, Margate 🤍

Day 17 of the #adventweddingchallenge2025 ~ print it real good 🖤 I actually found it so hard to photograph these colour darkroom prints, it’s like their beauty doesn’t want to be digitised 😅 anyway, in the effort of not over thinking and with this being only my second post of the challenge… here it goes!
My love of photography began in the darkroom, with prints, not pixels. The first time I watched a photogram come to life in the developer tray, inside my school’s tiny cupboard-turned-darkroom, there was honestly no stopping me. I had to learn more. I studied photography at university and basically lived in the darkroom, printing my life away.
Now I run a black & white community darkroom in Herne Bay (find me at @thedarkroombc), and I also tutor with @unicreativearts, where I’m lucky enough to have access to their colour darkroom too. There’s still nothing quite like watching an image slowly appear in the tray.
But why print? We have screens now, right?
I’m a big believer that photographs are meant to be held, framed, and viewed on a larger scale than a phone screen. What if your digital storage fails? What if you don’t know the password to a lost loved one’s accounts? For these reasons, each year I give my family a wedge of prints. Do some of them sit in drawers? Yes, I’m sure they do. But I love seeing them passed around on Christmas Day, talking about the memories we’ve made that year.
It’s only natural that I transfer this love of print into my wedding photography. I don’t get to do it nearly as much as I’d like, but when I find the time to hide myself away in the darkroom, I always emerge feeling like my creative cup is full.
You can order digital prints from your gallery, and add 35mm or 120 film to your wedding packages knowing that my reason for offering it isn’t a reaction to trends. Analogue photography and print are my heart and soul, and my why.

I had every intention of sharing more work recently, I even became a sponsor for #adventweddingchallenge2025 with ✨visions✨ of playing along myself, to free myself up from posting for the algorithm and to remind myself that this is ART. But alas, creative block hit and I’ve missed 9 days of the advent challenge. This week, the great Martin Parr left this earth, and honestly I couldn’t be more heartbroken. One of the true documentary photographers, a master of anticipation and with a humble response to his success. I reflected on Martin’s “rules for emerging photographers”, which goes as follows… “look & learn from other photographers” (see final slide for all 10)~ something I’ve always done within my creative practise and business structure & yet so frequently find myself not sharing my own work as openly as I view others. I lesson a learnt early in my creative journey is that you’re not trying to reinvent the wheel, inspiration comes from all around and “competition” doesn’t really exist in this field (unless you’re caught in the capitalist trap and does art really exist there?)

👀 SO, day 10 of the #adventweddingchallenge2025 ~ INCLUSIVITY. All love. Always. Inclusivity is one of my key values as a person and within my business. Inclusivity stretches far and wide. Inclusivity goes beyond timely icky marketing strategies, it means wholeheartedly considering different needs, physically and mentally. When you book me, nothing is assumed. To my LGBTQIA+ couples: your love is valid, powerful, and beautiful. I’m here to celebrate you in your way and to build spaces where you feel safe, supported, and free to be yourselves. My goal is to help create spaces where you feel safe, seen, and fully comfortable, exactly as you are. “A little context before I share about our experience with Emily:
My partner and I used to study in Brighton, a place that holds many fond memories for us.
When we were discussing the place to capture our special moment, naturally Brighton was our first choice. It was a rather impromptu trip, and we honestly didn’t expect to find a photographer on such short notice.
I think the perfect description to describe our encounter with Emily was “all stars were aligned for us to meet her.”
I came across Emily on a website called Hitched.co.uk.
She was one of the very first photographers to respond - and after very brief exchange of messages/ emails on how we wanted our photos taken at three different locations around Brighton, Emily agreed without hesitation. What touched us even more was that she isn’t actually based in Brighton as she had to drive all the way from Kent just to capture this special moment for us. We truly appreciated her effort and dedication, especially given the distance.
When we finally met Emily at Hove, we were definitely quite nerve wrecked with this photography session. It was our first time taking photos and being a foreign country, we couldn’t help but be a little self conscious. HOWEVER, Emily was an absolute pleasure, she was warm, approachable, and genuinely kind. Emily made the entire session felt so relaxed and natural.
Emily intuitively understood our shyness and cultural hesitations, and guided us gently throughout the shoot. Her encouragement and empathy really helped us open up and enjoy the experience. Before we knew it, the session was over, and to be honest, I think we had made a friend in spite of the fact that we met through professional circumstances.
We feel so fortunate to have met Emily and to have had her capture such a meaningful chapter in our lives. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a photographer who is not only talented but also incredibly thoughtful, intuitive, and kind.

“A little context before I share about our experience with Emily:
My partner and I used to study in Brighton, a place that holds many fond memories for us.
When we were discussing the place to capture our special moment, naturally Brighton was our first choice. It was a rather impromptu trip, and we honestly didn’t expect to find a photographer on such short notice.
I think the perfect description to describe our encounter with Emily was “all stars were aligned for us to meet her.”
